The Challenge: When I first saw this backyard it looked like a bowling alley. It was very long and narrow.

The Solution: As I designed the landscape, I wanted to make sure that you could not see the full length with one view, but rather it be viewed in compartments. It now has private areas, and no longer has that long, narrow look. The patio and barbecue are made out of Arizona flagstone.  The customer works out of his home. He wanted the sound of water, so we installed a waterfall. He wanted a really relaxing atmosphere with a garden that was high-maintenance. That way, he could relieve his work-related stress in the garden, doing his own maintenance.

The Challenge: This is a new home and you can see the walkway was put in for convenience of the contractor, not for artistic purposes.

The Solution: We not only changed the direction of the walkway, but by using Arizona flagstone we added an artistic dimension to the landscape.  We installed a dry riverbed for effect to the side. The flowers and plants are all perennials and annuals for seasonal color.
